ACADEMY INFO

Thank you for considering Improv Cincinnati’s academy. We have three simple goals:

1. To give our students a fun class full of joy and laughter.
2. To create new friendships and strong bonds between classmates.
3. To inspire personal growth and a love for the craft of improv.

We offer six levels of improv classes, three levels of sketch classes, and various electives. Ready to register? GO HERE!

SCHOLARSHIPS

We want to create a community that is welcoming, inclusive, and diverse. Our scholarships are open to individuals who identify as BIPOC (black, indigenous, person-of-color), LGBTQ+, and neurodiverse. Go here if you’re interested in learning more.

STUDENT SAFETY

We take student safety very seriously. Improv requires psychological and physical safety so that students can perform with emotional vulnerability and confidence. We don’t allow any form of bigotry (none of the isms), sexual harassment, creepy behavior, or crude/disrespectful comedy that punches down. Read our student safety contract here.

We empower students to be their own advocates. At the top of every class, we ask for students to share any boundaries or access needs. At any point, a student can step out of a scene and say “T for Time Out”. Students may also say “New Choice” if they encounter any content that they feel is triggering or problematic. Read our “Student Bill of Rights” here.

We have an anonymous reporting feature for anyone who wants to report a safety violation. All reports are investigated by the safety committee. Report an incident here.

REFUND POLICY

Because registered students are occupying a spot that could go to someone else, we do not offer refunds for class tuition for any reason.

  • If you need to cancel or drop before the class session begins, we’re happy to offer a class credit that you can use at any time in the future.

  • If you cancel or drop after the class session begins, you can retake the class at half price.

  • If a session of classes is canceled by Improv Cincinnati, you may choose between a full refund or class credit.

FAQ

  • Six weekly classes with a final performance showcase on the seventh week. Each class is 2.5 hours long.

  • Expect to meet a lot of other people who don’t have a lot of improv experience. Expect to play a bunch of fun, silly games that simultaneously focus on performance and personal development. Expect to laugh a lot. (A whole lot.) Here are a few things you might want to know…

    • We unfortunately don’t have a water fountain. You might want to bring a water bottle.

    • Students often go out for drinks (or ice cream) after class. Instructors have a tradition to join after the first and sixth class.

    • We prioritize student’s feeling safe. You can step out of a scene at any time.

    • We begin with a quick check-in and end with kudos where students can say nice things about each other.

  • You bet. Our Intro to Improv workshops allow students to dip their toe in the improv waters.

  • Please don’t worry about being funny. Just bring an open mind and a desire to have fun. Improv is often funniest when people are being their true, authentic selves.

  • Improv-101 Fundamentals is a class for beginners. If you already knew improv, then there would be nothing to learn.

  • Students for our ongoing classes must be 18 years or older. We offer an exception — teens age 14-17 may take the class with a fully paid and participating adult. We do not currently offer classes for kids.

  • Because registered students are occupying a spot that could go to someone else, we do not offer refunds for class tuition for any reason.

    • If you need to cancel or drop before the class session begins, we’re happy to offer a class credit that you can use at any time in the future.

    • If you cancel or drop after the class session begins, you can retake the class at half price.

  • We feel it’s very important to be at every class. Our policy is that you can’t miss more than two classes. We do offer the opportunity to swap into the class on the alternate day, but it must be within the same week.
