PERFORMER SUPPORT COMMITTEE

The Performer Support Committee is a group of five improvisers who are trusted to provide feedback about the quality of shows at Improv Cincinnati. They are selected by the Artistic Directors.

PSC Review Process

  • PSC Reviewers are assigned to shows via SchedgeUp.

    • No evaluator is assigned to evaluate a team in which they have a personal conflict (relationship with team member, coaches them, etc)

  • PSC Reviewers access the online evaluation form for the particular team they are assigned to watch.

  • During the performance, notes are discreetly taken by hand (not on a phone). The online evaluation form is completed after the show.

  • Coaches of teams are provided access to the spreadsheet that is generated from the form. They may share the feedback with copy/paste tools if they feel it’s helpful to the team. Coaches may also interpret/rephrase the feedback and/or share indirectly through exercises

    • Teams have the right to choose their captain as the one with access to the evaluation results. For instance, a team that does not have a consistent coach, may prefer to grant access to their captain.

  • Coaches may use the comment feature to correct any misconceptions on the feedback spreadsheet. No other communication is necessary.

PSC Support

  • All coaches will receive the PSC review. The coach can either pass along individual notes to their team members or work the feedback into their coaching in a way that supports the team’s growth. After every show, the Artistic Director will share general team notes with everyone on the team, keeping individual feedback private.

  • Teams and performers are always welcome to invite the Artistic Directors to visit a rehearsal. Depending on availability, AD’s may ask the team to meet at a different time or location.  If an individual performer would like some one-on-one time with the Artistic Directors, they’re encouraged to set up a meeting anytime — we just kindly ask that, when possible, these meetings happen during the weekly AD meeting. Reach out to know when and where weekly AD meeting will take place.

  • If a performer receives three red marks in the same category within five performances, they’ll get an email as a heads-up that some improvement is needed. The good news is that if they earn three consecutive yellow or green marks after that, the record resets and they’re back on track. Players are encouraged to regularly ask their coach if there are consecutive red marks or patterns forming that may lead to triggering this email.

  • If the reviews don’t improve, the Artistic Directors may reach out to schedule an in-person conversation. This meeting will happen within a week of the decision being made and will be a chance to talk openly about concerns and next steps. The performer will be given a clear warning that they’re at risk of being pulled from the team, but the Artistic Directors will also offer supportive suggestions to help, like retaking a class or finding other ways to grow. If a performer does end up being pulled from a team, they’ll still be invited to keep performing and growing on a Catalyst Team.

  • If a whole team is being considered to be sunset, the Artistic Directors will meet with the team within a week of the decision being made to explain the reasons why and offer ideas for improvement. From there, the team will have three months to make changes. After that time, depending on progress, the team could be cleared, receive another warning, or be sunset. If a team is sunset, all performers will be invited to continue their journey with a Catalyst Team.
